A new round of beginner computer coding classes for kids in grades 4-6 starts on Tuesday, November 1. Students will learn programming by creating their own interactive stories, games, animations, and websites. The classes involve self-paced lessons based on skills (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Returning students will pick up from where they left off. Space is limited. Register for the class through the website on the flyer below.
Are you interested in: Performing in a play? Illustrating a story? Creating a digital project? Victor Farmington Library is holding a workshop for children in grades 2-6 the first three Saturday mornings in November.
In workshop sessions children will perform a script based on a folktale. The audio performance of the play will be recorded. Children will then illustrate scenes from the story. The audio recording and illustrations of the folktale will be combined with music and title & ending credits to create a short digital video.
Hello PIE Members! We hope that your 2016-2017 school year has started off well! Please check your District Calendar for all of the exciting events this year.
Our first meeting will be October 4th in the VIS Auditorium. Kristin Swann, Associate Superintendent of Educational Services, and VCSD Staff will present an overview of the Enrichment offerings at Victor Schools. This is a great way to get first hand information about the numerous options. Opportunities vary from year to year so please come to hear about the current programs.
Nov 8th we are pleased to welcome Dr Sandra Eller. She is a college admissions consultant who will be presenting and answering questions about preparing for that next big step. If you have specific questions please send them to me, firstname.lastname@example.org, so that we can forward them to Dr Eller. She is very willing to answer parent questions and tailor the presentation to specific topics. We are very grateful to Kristin Swann for arranging this wonderful opportunity!
Shared Decision Making Councils
There are still spots open for parent representatives on many building councils as well as all grade levels of the program reviews (Science, Health, Home & Careers). The first meeting is Tuesday, Sept 13, 3:30pm – 5pm in the VECS Boardroom. Please contact Stephanie Dempsey email@example.com if you are interested. Decisions are made at these meetings and parents are given a seat at the table – we need to fill those seats!

Oct 18, 7pm, PTSA Community Forum: Scott Fitch “Pause Before You Post”. Information for all families as we navigate this digital world. JH students will have a presentation during the school day.
PIE Chess Clubs
At this point, Victor Primary Chess Club will not be happening this year. Unfortunately, we have not had any parents/guardians volunteer to supervise the sessions. If you are interested and available 2:45pm – 4:15pm, about 2 Wednesdays a month starting in October please contact me, firstname.lastname@example.org. We have plenty of chess boards and a room reserved, but we need an adult to supervise in order for the program to run. Knowledge of chess is helpful but not required.
Victor Intermediate Chess Club will start Oct 5th 3:15-4pm. Registration forms will be in What’s Happening.
Any parents interested in starting a Victor Early Childhood School Chess Club or doing some family chess sessions please contact me.

Did you do your “hour of code”? The week of December 7 was “Hour of Code” week, encouraging everyone to invest an hour learning how to write some computer code. A number of VCS students took part, as you’ll see from the excerpt below from the weekly school newsletters and the Messenger Post article “They’re cracking the code at Victor, other Ontario County schools, taking part in world-wide computer science push”. If you and your child have not yet done your hour, there are a number of online resources available even to elementary school students. Continue reading
We are proud to release the new PIEx Enrichment Directory! Suggested by parents at last year’s opening meeting, the PIEx Enrichment Directory lists activities outside of Victor Central Schools that stimulate minds to new heights. Entries are crowd-sourced by Victor parents and reviewed for appropriate content before posting. Do you know of an enrichment program that you’d like to suggest to other Victor parents?
